Melinda Gates is an American philanthropist and co-founder of the Bills & Melinda Gates Foundation. Foundation works to help all people lead healthy, productive lives. In developing countries, it focuses on improving people’s health and giving them the chance to lift themselves out of hunger and extreme poverty. In the United States, it seeks to ensure that all people—especially those with the fewest resources—have access to the opportunities they need to succeed in school and life. In addition, Melinda Gates has spearheaded initiatives that support women’s rights. She led the London Summit on Family Planning in 2012. She also started an investment and incubation company called Pivotal Ventures to address pay inequality, and support women founders in the United States.Gates has done a lot for peace, and it shows from the many awards she has been given, which include, The Award for Greatest Public Service Benefiting the Disadvantaged, an award given out annually by Jefferson Awards. Melinda and Bill Gates were named by Time as Persons of the Year. Melinda and Bill Gates received the Spanish Prince of Asturias Award for International Cooperation in recognition of their world impact through charitable giving.
