Marija Kochevar is a famous Slovenian immigrant. She was a midwife, herbalist, and healer for the immigrant community. As a midwife, she delivered over 350 children. She would strap heavy sacks around her shoes for wading through the snow at any hour to attend a birth and continue to care for the mother and the child for the eight days following. Marija saved many lives while risking her own, and that is exactly why we think she is a peace hero.
