Dolores Clara Fernández Huerta is an American organizer, labor leader, and civil and women’s rights activist. Huerta advocated for improving working conditions for farmers and season workers, lobbying for new and better laws. She co-founded the National Farm Workers Association (later United Agricultural Workers Organizing Committee) in 1962. In 1998, Huerta received The Eleanor Roosevelt Humans Rights Award from President Clinton. In 2012 President Obama bestowed Dolores with The Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian award in the United States.
