Country United States Chipeta was a Native American woman of the Uncompahgre tribe. She was an advisor and confidant of her husband Chief Ouray. As a Native American rights advocate and diplomat, she used diplomacy to try and achieve peace with the settlers in Colorado. She was highly respected by both the Ute tribe and settlers.
