Benjamin Swift is a passionate environmental steward turned activist. Swift is dedicated to making a difference in the quality of his local environment and the world. His project started in 2016, Plastic Bag Free CB, a movement to eliminate non-reusable plastic bags within Crested Butte, and throughout Gunnison County. With the help of Swift, Crested Butte is now plastic-free as of September 1, 2018. Swift is the founder and President Emeritus of Sustainable Crested Butte, a non-profit organization to promote environmental initiatives. He was awarded President’s Environmental Youth Award for Outstanding Achievement in Environmental Stewardship. Swift has said that he is continuing his efforts and ‘’I definitely plan on continuing the fight with environmental issues, climate change being of paramount importance, whether I’m in Crested Butte or elsewhere. Wherever I am, I’ll continue.”
